Dingy but Good
Old? Not at all – it was built in 1982. But it sits in the area of Three Ways Wharf, an archeological site excavated latter in the 1980s to gather insights into late glacial and early holocene hunter-gatherers living here 9,000 to 10,000 years ago. To me, that’s old. How many great, great grandparents is that?
Some years later, when I took this photo from across the Grand Union Canal, “The Quays,” an 86,000-plus square foot office building, appeared to have been vacant for some time. At one point, many of the good folks at Parexel, a huge clinical research company, thought of it as their home away from home – or so I image. Perhaps the dingy appearance here echoes some of the sadness they likely felt when its doors closed. I find that the dinginess just adds to its beauty.
