By Any Other Name
Somewhere I have a photo of my then 70-year-old mom with her new ceramic hip, crouched all the way down on her elbows and knees, right along the edge of some meandering highway on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, trying with her one semi-good eye to photograph a tiny, obscure wildflower. She and my older sister are both hardcore flower lovers, and this happened on a giggle-filled road trip the three of us took some years back. On that same trip we also visited Carmel Mission, where I photographed these less-wild flowers from a fully upright position, many yards and at least one mission wall away from any oncoming traffic.
