A Fresh Coat

Without doing further research, I’m guessing the brickwork on this building was done in 1876, shortly after the “Great” fire of 1875. The elbow bracket in the lower right corner of the window frame was probably added a bit later. If I had to guess further, I’d guess the ladder is more of a lifestyle feature than access for repairs – but that’s just a guess. Fun fact about this once-booming (literally) mining city: a huge chunk of the money pulled out of the ground here paid to build a huge chunk of San Francisco at the time. (That was probably more fun for some than for others.)
